Episode 2 of
Survivor South Africa, and tonight the unlucky Survivor to be voted off was Sam. I have come up with a couple of adjectives to describe this fella... after one episode I don't like him so here it goes: sulking, stuck up, stupidly strategic and arrogant. The sculptor from Hogsback really burnt his bridges after blowing up at Mzi in tonight's episode... He then proceeded to try and pledge his allegiance to those who he basically knew would vote him out. When it came to tribal council it was as though he'd lost all hope and said "Well the tribe seems to have made their decision so let's just get to it" Silly silly silly sulker... so perhaps it is for the best. I must admit I am rather impressed with MNet's attempt at Survivor- well done.

The Parlotones are set to make huge waves abroad. Earlier this week the deal of a lifetime came through as the guys signed a big, and I mean BIG international record deal with Universal Music. Those working at Universal in South Africa have always been interested in taking local artists to bigger international markets. This coincendentally worked out well for what many call South Africa's version of Crowded House,. Their song
Beautiful has been used as the official soundtrack for an Irish advert for Fuji Film. Anyway the sample was sent to the big boss in Ireland who responded within 2 hours with a "Love the song, lets do it".
The licence deal isn't just for Ireland but rather for the whole of the UK. If that isn't enough the deal got a life of its own when more countries expressed their interest in the band, which included France, Japan, Germany, Holland, Ireland. Their first single Beautiful will be released soon. The band's music has been described as "Music that is affecting, meets contemporary international tastes. The singer sets memorable marks and the album shows notable acclaim since it's an award winner (South African Music Award winner for Best Rock album)--yes, I believe there are possibilities to introduce them to Germany., says Markus Marwil Radio Motor FM in Germany.
According to Sovereign Entertainment "The deal is a very important milestone for South African music as it marks the first time that a South African rock band has been singed in multiple territories by a major label. We hope the success of the Parlotones opens doors for many more South African artists in the future."
Pitty this didn't come sooner, I could've used this type of information in my documentary on the South African music industry. It's brilliant and I'm glad that the band is gaining the exposure they deserve. You see... artists in S.A are starting to realise their unique qualities. They're preserving this and taking it to markets abroad, and evidently our sound is being embraced...
